Office of the Official Secretary to the Governor-General

The position of Official Secretary to the Governor-General was established in 1901. The Governor-General Act 1974 was amended by Parliament in 1984 to establish the position as a statutory office. The Official Secretary and their staff provide the Governor-General with the necessary support to enable the Governor-General to carry out their constitutional, statutory, ceremonial and public duties.
