Dear Mr Smith
Freedom of Information Request – Access Charges: Section 22 (Reference: 20/2480)
I refer to your request for documents under th
e Freedom of Information Act 1982 (the FOI Act) cited below:
I would like to know under FOI the identities of the members of the selection panel, for the tender
awarded to the architects of the New Student Precinct project; mentioned here:
https://www.alumni.unimelb.edu.au/architects-named-new-student-precinct
Additionally, I am requesting the approximate dollar amount spent by the the university on this
project, as at the date of this email. (The article mentioned a $229M figure, and I would like to know
how much of that budget has yet been spent.)
The University has conducted further enquiries on this basis and I now write to advise that access charges
exceeding $50.00 are likely to apply to your request. Access charges are separate from the FOI application
fee.
I have calculated the estimated charge of $76.40 in accordance with the
Freedom of Information (Access
Charges) Regulations 2014.
Creation of a document
The University can create a document to satisfy Part 2 of your request, as provided by section 19 of the Act.
The University must estimate access charges based on reasonable costs incurred in creating this document.
These costs take in to consideration the time taken by the relevant officer to query a database, generate the
data and produce a document.
The estimated access charges also include one hour to search for documents at $22.20.
A summary of the charges is as follows:
Type of charge
Quantity
Amount
Production of a document under section 19
1 hour work of a UoM 8 officer
$ 54.20
The University of Melbourne, Victoria 3010 Australia
Unimelb.edu.au
Search time @ $22.20 per hour or part thereof 1 hour
$ 22.20
TOTAL
$ 76.40
You are required to pay a deposit on the estimated access charges before the University can process your
request. You may wish to consult with us about altering your request to reduce the estimated charge. If you
wish to proceed, please pay the deposit amount of
$25.00 within 28 days of receipt of this letter.
This payment can be made by credit card by telephoning (03) 8344 6772.
Please note that the statutory timeframe for processing your request will only begin once a deposit is
received.
REVIEW RIGHTS
If you are not satisfied with my decision regarding access charges, you may seek a review by the Victorian
Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Please note that the Tribunal will only consider the matter if the Victorian
Information Commissioner has first certified that this matter is one of sufficient importance for the Tribunal
to consider. A review must be made within 60 days of the date of this letter.
If you require any assistance, please contac
