NBN Rollout Statistics as at 31st March 2013
Dear NBN Co Limited,
I request the following statistics on the NBN rollout, both the latest internally available figures past the previously public statistics (end December 2012) if any, and also as at 31st March 2013.
1) Brownfields Fibre Rollout
a) Number of premises under construction;
b) Number of premises passed (able to order a service);
c) Number of premises with an active Brownfield Fibre NBN service.
2) Fixed Wireless Rollout
a) Number of premises covered by an 'actively under construction' tower site;
b) Number of premises covered by active tower site (able to order a service);
c) Number of premises with an active Fixed Wireless NBN Service.
3) Interim Satellite coverage
a) Number of premises with an active Interim Satellite NBN Service.
I realise that these figures will take some time to collate, however I trust that these figures are being worked on for the upcoming Joint Parliamentary Committee being held in Sydney on the 19th of April 2013.
I would be appreciate being furnished with the information of the active services across all three networks as soon as possible.

Dear Adam & David,
I am somewhat disappointed that NBNco has decided to withhold the information requested at the current time.
It has been noted that the Minister seems to be able to freely get these sorts of numbers at will, and disseminate them to the public as he sees fit.
While there was an indication of the total number of active premises across all three connection types in Exhibit 4.1 of the report presented to the Joint NBN Parliamentary Committee, of which I received a hard copy of as I was in attendance at that hearing, it was a bar graph with no actual total numerical figure. I do not accept that the bar graph presented yields a reliable figure.
I look forward to NBNco publishing the requested information in this FoI once after the information is released to Senate Estimates.

It would appear that there is a significant subset of the rollout figures as at the date that I have requested. Why was this information released to the public in a Press Release and not also added to this FoI request?

While I thank you for your reply, you did not answer my question.
I will restate it again - Why was the referenced press release, which contained a large subset of the requested rollout data, not provided as an interim answer to this FoI request?
I realise that the press release does not answer my request in entirety, but I did ask in the original request that "I would be appreciate being furnished with the information of the
active services across all three networks as soon as possible." This information is indeed in that press release.
I also note that the referenced press release was not received or noted by a large number of the press at the time of publishing by NBNco.

Please note that I am not in control of NBN Co's press and media releases and I was under the impression that the information was to be released at the Budget Estimates Hearings. In any case, my FOI decision indicated that the information would be made publicly available and published on NBN Co's website. I never made any indication that I was finalising this FOI request. As per my decisions, the release was deferred until an external review, due later this month. That has not changed.
You had previously complained that I had not made you aware of media releases relating to rollout statistics. As I outlined previously, those releases are not in my control. This press release came to my attention today and I presumed you would be interested in the information.
