Dear Mr Jacobs,

 

I refer to your email on 16 July 2020, which was forwarded to the
department of Transport as the appropriate agency to respond to your
query:

The Freedom of Information Act 1982 (‘the Act’) provides members of the
public with the right to request documents held by the Department or
Ministers. The Act establishes a general right of access to documents,
however, in order to protect essential public interests and the private &
business affairs of third parties, this right of access does not apply to
documents identified by the Act as exempt documents. The Act provides for
documents containing exempt matter to be released in part, after the
exempt matter has been deleted and where it is practicable to do so.

 

Requests under the Act can be sent via via email to the department’s FOI

accompany each request, although this may be reduced or waived in
circumstances of financial hardship.
