Documents quantifying the magnitude of Mr. Bob Day AO's debt the Commonwealth has waived

Mark Newton made this Freedom of Information request to Special Minister of State

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Special Minister of State should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

From: Mark Newton

Delivered

Dear Special Minister of State,

On May 25 2017, you published a statement describing your decision to waive debt owed to the Commonwealth by Mr. Bob Day, AO, following his period of unlawfully sitting as a Senator.

Your statement enumerated debts "owed for salaries, allowances, superannuation and staff payments."

(ref: https://twitter.com/political_alert/stat...

Please disclose any documents which quantify debts in each of those four categories, debts in any other categories which you have waived but not identified in your published statement, and total debt.

Since Mr. Day was not qualified to be elected to the Senate and was incapable of sitting as a Senator from 26 February 2016, in my opinion waiving these debts qualifies as public expenditure for no lawful purpose. Due the the obvious public interest arising from such well-considered and deliberate Government waste, I request waiver of any fees associated with this Freedom of Information application.

Yours faithfully,

Mark Newton

Good afternoon Mr Newton,

Freedom of Information Requests

Thank you for your emails to the Special Minister of State and the
Department of Finance (Finance) requesting access to certain documents
under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act). On 30 May 2017, you
were advised that the FOI request 17/79 had been transferred to Finance.

The purpose of this email is to streamline the processing of your related
FOI requests, in particular:

Original Request (FOI 17/79)

… Please disclose any documents which quantify debts in each of those four
categories, debts in any other categories which you have waived but not
identified in your published statement, and total debt …

submitted by Mr. Day, or any other correspondence from Mr. Day or his

2. The report of the advisory committee which considered the
appropriateness of the Minister's authorisation authorisation for debt
waiver, pursuant to sections 24(2) and 24(3) of the Public Governance,

I'm going to close this one in due course, because it's been merged with https://www.righttoknow.org.au/request/d...

There isn't a "merged with other request" category of to explain why it's being closed, so I'll leave this one open until the other one is answered, and close them both off at the same time with an indication of whether they had the information or not.
