Dear Australian Taxation Office,

The present government promised rebates of up to A$2,000 to low income earners for 2018-19. How long after submitting a tax return are these rebates being paid out - and how are they paid?

Yours faithfully,
William Bryan Richards

Hi William,

As a regular user of this site, I expect the ATO will treat this request as invalid, because you have asked a question, rather than ask for documents. The FOI Act gives people a right to documents, not to have answers to specific questions.

There is some information on usual timeframes on the ATO website. It can be found at https://www.ato.gov.au/Individuals/Lodgi...

It states that "Electronic returns are normally processed in two weeks. Paper returns are processed manually, taking 10 weeks."

So it seems it makes a difference how you lodged your return.

How much rebate or refund you may get will depend on your taxable income. More information can be found here https://www.ato.gov.au/Individuals/Incom...

Good luck

Steph
