Information Drip, Non disclosure of mandatory criterion in job ad

JS made this Freedom of Information request to Australian Competition and Consumer Commission

The request was refused by Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

From: JS

Delivered

Dear Australian Competition and Consumer Commission,

On the Seek website there is an ACCC advertisement for Senior Agricultural Markets Advisers to be located in Canberra, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Amongst other things the ad states that (1) applicants must have strong communication and analytical skills and a sound understanding of agricultural industry structures and supply chains: (2) For more information on working with the ACCC and to apply online please visit  www.accc.gov.au/employment, and (3) Eligibility - This employment opportunity is open to all Australians.

Not disclosed in the advert is a mandatory criterion of eligibility for the positions. Potential applicants do not discover the existence of the mandatory criterion – i.e. more than 10 years experience or expertise relevant to the economic analysis of the agriculture sector – until they visit the ACCC website and open a document entitled Position Description Senior Agricultural Markets Adviser - Enforcement Division. Therefore, some statements in the Seek advert are misleading.

Under FOI I seek access to a document that records the reason or reasons why the mandatory criterion of eligibility for the positions ( i.e. more than 10 years experience or expertise relevant to the economic analysis of the agriculture sector) was not disclosed in the advert.

Yours faithfully,

JS
