I would like to know if it is possible to opt out of the My Health Record system please?

Dear Madeline

Thank you for contacting us.

Noting that your request was received via the Right to Know Website and
the subject of your email was 'Freedom of Information request', we believe
the below information will satisfy your needs.

If this is not the case please let us know via return email within 7 days
of the date of this email. If we do not hear from you we will assume you
do not require any further action from us.

You can [1]cancel your My Health Record at any time by logging into your
myGov account or contacting our Helpline.

Follow either of the steps below if you wish to cancel your record and
permanently delete your information from the system.

1.Visit the website
Please follow the steps below to cancel your record:

1. Log in to your My Health Record through myGov.
2. Select the 'Profile & Settings' tab.
3. Select 'Profile' and navigate to the bottom of the page.
4. Read the information and click on ‘Cancel My Health Record’.

2. Call the My Health Record Help line on 1800 723 471
You will need to provide proof of identity to cancel a My Health Record.

* First name
* Last name
* Date of birth
* Medicare card number or Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) file
number
* Address as recorded with Medicare or DVA

When you cancel your record, all information in the record, including any
backups, will be permanently deleted from the system. Deleted information
cannot be recovered. It will no longer be available to the individual or
their healthcare providers, including in an emergency.

Even if you permanently delete a My Health Record, you can re-register for
a new record if you decide you want one in the future. If you re-register,
your new My Health Record will not contain any information from your
previous record.
