Could you give me information re the number of complaints received by baby boomers regarding the lack of care given to their parents in aged care facilities.

I refer to your FOI request received by the Department of Health (Department) on 11 April 2018.

The Department does not collect the type of information you are seeking. The Department has made contact with the Aged Care Complaints Commissioner (Complaints Commissioner) to see if they collect this type of information, however we have been advised that they do not collect information about complainants’ ages.

There is publicly available information on the types of people who make complaints to the Complaints Commissioner.

The data for the 2016-17 financial year is publicly available on page 19 of the Complaints Commissioner annual report which can be found at: https://www.agedcarecomplaints.gov.au/in...

There are also updated quarterly figures available on the Complaints Commissioner website. The September 2017 quarter is currently available, with the December 2017 quarter to be published shortly. These quarterly reports can be found at: https://www.agedcarecomplaints.gov.au/in...

This request was handled very nicely by the agency. They did not have the information but the officer consulted with another agency that might have the information. Also so links were sent to the applicant where she could find some publicly available information that is relevant.
