Records designating the Principal Registry and District Registries of the Federal Court of Australia

Dear Office of the Official Secretary to the Governor-General,

Until the passage of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Consequential Amendments and Transitional Provisions) Act 2021, subsection 34(2) of the Federal Court of Australia Act 1976 (Cth) provided:

The Governor-General must designate one of the Registries as the Principal Registry, and each other Registry shall be a District Registry in respect of such District as the Governor-General specifies.

I was hoping to get my hands on any and all documents recording:

a) the designation of one of the Registries of the Federal Court as the Principal Registry;
b) the designation of each other Registry of the Federal Court as a District Registry in respect of the Districts specified by the Governor-General.

I would appreciate it if the documents were provided via an administrative release under the FOI Act but, to the extent you are unwilling to grant access to the documents administratively, please accept this email as an FOI request under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth).

Yours faithfully,

Jake S
