Heidi Conner made this Freedom of Information request to Education Services Australia

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Education Services Australia did not have the information requested.

Dear Education Services Australia,

Please can you supply me with a CSV file of school contact details that you hold in Australia? Preferably with email contacts? I am conducting some educational research.

Many thanks in advance.

Yours faithfully,

Heidi Conner

Hi Heidi,

We have the Victorian Schools Mailing list available for purchase, however we do not supply our organisational database details to the public.

There is currently no list of emails for Victorian Schools, but I believe that some other states have this information available from the Education Department.

Kind Regards,

Heidi. The statement "we do not supply our organisational database details to the public" should be taken with a grain of salt. Because you did not specifically state that your request for documents was a request under the Freedom of Information Act, it looks as if they have simply replied to it as a query ... which I suppose it was.

There are two things you might do, one of which is more likely to be successful than the other. You could write another request, actually asking for a copy of the database document under FOI. I don't recommend it because I think that even if you succeed it might take you forever (see the FOI Commissioner's decision about school names in Diamond and Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority [2013] AICmr 57 at http://www.oaic.gov.au/freedom-of-inform... ).

On the other hand, if you can do without the email addresses and rely on a complete list of schools with partial address information (but certainly sufficient for Australia post), then you can download a list from ACARA:
www.acara.edu.au/verve/_resources/201404...

A useful general approach to finding what is available is to do a Google search such as the following (including the double quotation marks):
"Abbotsford Primary" "A B Paterson College" "shenton college" site:au

In case the syntax of the search isn't clear, it asks for sites with .au suffixes (and hence Australian sites) that include the three completely unrelated schools that I've named. Any list that includes those names is likely to include all school names, or something very close to it.

Sorry for the confusion, but we've been advised Education Services Australia isn't formally subject to FOI. I've updated the information page to reflect this.

Thanks
