Good afternoon Mr Allen,

Thank you for your email of 9 July 2013 requesting the following
information under the FOI Act:

I am inquiring as to the number of personal staff employed in Prime
Ministers Office, both full time and temporary, seconded or not. I want to
know in full time equivalent jobs, how many personal staff each Prime
Minister has had, by year

It is currently unclear as to the exact scope of your request. The nature
of the information you have requested is publicly available on the
Parliament of Australia website.

Information relating to the number of personal staff employed in the Prime
Minister’s office is part of a document which is regularly tabled at
Senate Estimates and which is publically available at:
[1]http://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Busi...
. This information has been tabled since approximately the 2004-05
Additional Estimates.

For example, the most recent document which was tabled relating to
Government persona positions can be found at this link:

[2]http://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Busi...
- the document is titled ‘Government Personal Positions as at 1 May 2013’.

Information that is publicly available is outside the scope of the FOI
Act. On the basis that the above information is publicly available, are
you happy to withdraw your request?

Kind regards,

Steve Allen, the Department advised that the information you sought was publicly available on the Parliament House website. I've had a look and it seems to be. So this FOI is not awaiting classification it has been answered and is successful. It's all very well to create work but it really needs to be followed through.
