Stamp Duty Paid for Property Purchased

Sam made this Government Information (Public Access) request to City of Canada Bay

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, City of Canada Bay should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear City of Canada Bay,

I refer to the purchase by council of 9 Waterview Street, Five Dock of unknown date in 2008.

According to the New South Wales Tresuary Stamp duty calculator, the amount of stamp duty payable on a one million dollar land purchase is $40,490.00.

Also according to the New South Wales Tresuary, the Canada Bay Council paid a mere $2.00 for the above purchase.

Is it common practice for council not to pay the same amount of stamp duty the public is expected too?.

Please provide proof of payment paid by the council for all land purchases made by council
and the total amounts of stamp duty paid by the council for land purchases for these financial years; 2007/2008, 2008/2009 & 2010/2011.

Yours faithfully,

Cherie

council, City of Canada Bay
