Background
• Bureau weather app uses a mixture of infrastructure and technology to present the rain data
• The current solution has limitations from a performance and scalability perspective and a
new tool (Mapbox) has been integrated to address this Information
• With a new mapping solution developed and ready for releas
of  e in the app, there is a need to
migrate users off versions of the app that have the "old" mapping tool and onto the newer
version
• www.weather.bom.gov.au uses the same data source for it's radar as the Bureau weather
Freedom
app and wil  also be decommissioned
• This change also causes for the Mobile App to move from a reflectivity (dbz) data feed to a
under
rain rate (mm/hr) data feed

Off the top here are some other differences:
Weather.bom (Proton) does not have the following that are in the app:
72 hours of hourly forecast data (proton has 3 hourly data)
Hourly wind gust
3 hourly Total wave height
Updated radar with 90 minutes observed rain and 90 mins forecast in 5 minute time steps
(Proton radar only has 60 mins forecast in 10 min time steps)
Moon phase
Proton does not have the latest rainfall changes
Proton does not have the marine information including:
Waters forecast
Tide times
Warning push notifications
Information
Past Weather for 72 hours
of
National warnings list by state
Dark mode
These are the key feature-based differences.
