I am replying to your email of 26 July 2023. You requested under the Freedom of Information Act that 
the VRB respond to your enquiry: “It would be appreciated if you could supply me with the number of 
new appeals to the VRB on a month by month basis since 1 January 2021” . 
 
The VRB prepares, and reports on, data concerning the number of new applications for review that it 
receives each financial year rather than on a monthly basis. Accordingly, we cannot provide a monthly 
breakdown of applications for review received at the VRB since 1 January 2021. 
 
However, we can provide the following data in relation to your enquiry: 
 
  During the 2020-21 financial year there were 2,772 new applications for review received at the 
VRB 
  For the 2021-22 financial year there were 2,781 applications for review received at the VRB 
  Lodgement data for the 2022-23 financial year is not yet available. This data will be included in 
the upcoming VRB annual report for 2022-23. After the report has been tabled by Federal 
Parliament it will then be made available on the VRB’s website.  
 
I am providing this information to answer your request outside of the FOI process in the interests of 
efficiency.
