FOI 23-29 - Decision on Access 
 
I refer to the request made under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth) (FOI Act) to 
Airservices Australia (Airservices) on 11 September 2023 (the request). It seeks access to the 
following information drelated to the survey conducted as part of the Hobart Airport Noise 
Abatement Procedure (NAP) trial proposal: 
 
•  the total number of survey respondents by community and option selected. 
 
•  the total number of residents in the Southern Beaches Area that should have had the 
opportunity to be included in your survey. 
 
I am authorised under section 23 of the FOI Act and the Airservices Instrument of Delegation and 
Authorisation to make decisions on primary requests under the FOI Act. 
 
Decision 
 
I have decided to grant access to the two documents sought by the request in full. The documents 
are the Hobart Airport Noise Abatement Procedure (NAP) trial proposal - Flight Path Design 
Assessment Outcome and population data drawn from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. 
 
With respect to the first point of the request, a total of 100 responses were received to the NAP trial 
survey. Of these 7 did not clearly identify a preference for or against a NAP trial and 2 were 
removed from consideration due to being duplicates (on the advice of the ANO). The remaining 91 
responses were used to inform the NAP trial community preference analysis, and you can find the 
breakdown of this number by area in the map on page 4 of Document 1. 
 
With respect to the second point of the request, al  persons in the Southern Beaches Area had the 
opportunity to participate in the survey. Population data on this area is set out in Document 2.
