Request for documents under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth)
I refer to your
Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth) request dated 7 November 2012 to the
Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) requesting the following:
Copy of the latest briefing by the Murray Darling Basin Authority on the pros and cons of
removing (or permanently opening) the River Murray barrages and/or the latest briefing
by the Authority on the impact of allowing seawater incursions into the Lower Lakes of the
River Murray.
Authority
I am, pursuant to arrangements authorised by the Chief Executive of the Murray–Darling
Basin Authority (MDBA) under section 23 of the FOI Act, authorised to make a decision in
relation to this request on behalf of the MDBA.
Decision
In respect of the documents I have identified and located that are within the scope of your
request, I have made a decision that I will grant partial access to two documents with
information deleted from the documents in accordance with relevant exemptions under the
FOI Act.
A copy of the documents I have decided to release in part are
attached with this letter.
In addition to these two documents, an MDBA Fact Sheet entitled
All about the barrages is
available on the MDBA’s website at

and may be of further interest.
I am also pleased to advise that I have decided to waive charges applicable to processing
your request.
