Dear Mr Heffernan
FOI REQUEST – REFERENCE NUMBER 2015-027
I refer to your email of 17 June 2015 in which you sought access to the following under the
Freedom
of Information Act 1982 (the FOI Act):
“…any internal documents from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in relation to the
procedures and policies in place for employees when reporting on climate change issue and
global warming events.”
I am authorised by the Managing Director under section 23 of the FOI Act to make decisions in
respect of requests made under the Act. Following is my decision in relation to your request.
The issue of reporting on climate change has been the subject of FOI requests in the past—see for
instance matter 2013-044 listed in the ABC’s
FOI Disclosure Log. You will see from that decision that,
based on my enquiries at that time, the
ABC Editorial Policies, the
ABC Code of Practice,
and
associated Guidance Notes were identified as the only documents which fell within the scope of the
request. I am satisfied that this remains the case, and that no additional documents exist.
The
ABC Editorial Policies, the
ABC Code of Practice,
and associated Guidance Notes are all publicly
available on the ABC’s website:
http://about.abc.net.au/how-the-abc-is-run/what-guides-us/our-
editorial-policies/.
If you are dissatisfied with this decision you can apply for Internal or Information Commissioner (IC)
Review. You do not have to apply for Internal Review before seeking IC Review. Information about
your review rights is attached.
Yours sincerely
Judith Maude
