Decision on your Freedom of Information request
I refer to your request dated and received by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the
Environment and Water (
department) on 21 August 2024 for access under the
Freedom of
Information Act 1982 (Cth) (
FOI Act) to the following documents:
‘I refer to this media Release dated 21 August 2024:
"In a massive step towards making Australia a renewable energy superpower, the
Albanese Government has approved a huge new industrial solar power project in the
Northern Territory. SunCable’s Australia-Asia Power Link will be the biggest solar farm
in Australia and is expected to generate up to 6GW of renewable energy including 4GW
to be used in Darwin - which is the energy equivalent to power 3 million homes."
The documents I seek are documents that would provide details of the estimated
number of solar panels to be used on any or all of the stages of this project, as well as
details where these solar panels would be manufactured.
I also seek documents that would provide details of any batteries included in the project
to store electricity produced during daylight hours to provide electricity at night.
Details of where these batteries would be manufactured, if available, would be included
in the request.’
I also refer to the email sent to you on 11 September 2024 advising you that the documents
located in relation to this matter were publicly available and seeking your written confirmation
to agree to withdraw your FOI request. As a response was not received, a follow up email was
sent to you on 16 September 2024. To date, a response has not been received from you.
My decision
The department holds two documents (totalling 112 pages) that relate to your request.
I have decided to grant you
full access to the documents.

I have decided not to impose a charge for processing your FOI request on this occasion.
