Easter long weekend
2023 lessons learnt:
o
8625 overloaded on the Thursday prior to the long weekend. No other major changes to travel
behaviour on the Thursday were observed.
o
High loadings across the weekend were experienced. Part of the demand was attributed to
special events including football and the Bendigo Easter Show as well as the customer taking
advantage of the newly introduced fare cap.
o
Late night services were busy on Friday and Sunday, with both days running a Sunday train
timetable with fewer late-night services.
o
From 2023, some gaps have been addressed through fare cap build ups and additional, however
further support will be required.
2024 planning:
o
Build ups to and from the Bendigo show will be implemented. Several additionals and build ups
will also be added to cater for expected football patronage. This will be managed through the
special events forum.
o
Late night standby coaches on Friday and Sunday night should be implemented.
o
Additional standbys on the North East, South West and North Corridors to support expected high
numbers and provide some coverage for unplanned disruptions.
o
Running the North East Saturday fare cap timetable on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

2023 lessons learnt:

ANZAC day 2023 was on Tuesday 25th April. There was no abnormal loadings on the Monday,
suggesting there were not significant numbers taking the extra-long weekend.
o
On ANZAC day, numbers were low early morning, likely a result of later business opening times across
the state.
o
There were several busy service ex Southern Cross late morning Early afternoon.
o
None of the Warnambool’s had standees across the period
