NOTICE OF DECISION ON FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST 
1. 
I refer to your correspondence, dated 27 October 2015, in which you requested access, 
under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act), to: 
Item 1 - Documents that show the final cost to the department for the current defence 
lanyard. 
Item 2 - The quote/cost for the replacement defence lanyard known as the next 
generation lanyard mentioned in the Canberra Times article on 22 Oct 15.

The statutory timeframe for you to receive your request is 25 November 2015.

The purpose of this letter is to provide you with the decision relating to the documents 
that are the subject of your request.

authorised officer pursuant to section 23 of the FOI Act to make a decision on this FOI 
request.

Ms Avakian identified two documents as matching the description of your request.

Ms Avakian decided to release the documents in full with irrelevant information 
redacted under Subsection 22(1).

Subsection 22(1) of the FOI Act states the following: 
(1) 
This section applies if: 
(a) 

an agency or Minister decides: 
(ii)  that to give access to a document would disclose information that 

would reasonably be regarded as irrelevant to the request for 
access.

After examination of the document, Ms Avakian found that they contained material 
which, if released, would disclose information that would reasonably be regarded as irrelevant 
to the scope of the request as the applicant has excluded personal and business information 
and requires only the cost. Ms Avakian therefore decided to remove that material in 
accordance with subparagraph 22(1)(a)(ii) of the FOI Act.

In accordance with the requirements of section 11C of the FOI Act, Defence is 
required to publish details of information released under the FOI Act. Defence will publish 
today the identified documents relating to this requests with privacy deletions.
