Dear Distinguished Professor Bell, 
 
It is with great pleasure that I advise that the Council of The Australian National University (ANU) has resolved to 
appoint you as Vice-Chancellor and President (Vice-Chancellor) of The Australian National University from 1st January 
2024.  
 
The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive Officer of the University, and subject to the ANU Act, Statutes and any 
resolution of Council, is required to control and manage the affairs and the concerns of the University and may exercise 
such powers as are necessary to discharge these duties. 
 
Your appointment is governed by the Australian National University (Governance) Statute 2023. 
 
The appointment is for a five-year period from 1st January 2024 to 31st December 2028.  
 
The terms and conditions of your appointment are set out in the attached contract which is also the instrument of 
appointment.  
 
The University Council commits to the following arrangements to support your tenure as Vice-Chancellor: 
s22- Access to edited copies or exempt or irrelevant matter deleted
-  Key performance indicators (KPI’s): For each year of the contract, KPI’s will be established. These will be 
agreed through the Council Remuneration Committee, normally held in February each year and noted at the next 
available Council meeting. This may include the creation of a bonus structure in future years.

To accept this offer of employment you will need to sign and return one (1) complete signed copy of this letter and the 
attached Individual Employment Contract and return them within 7 days.

offer of employment contained in this letter, on the basis of employment under an Individual Employment Contract.
