Thank you for contacting Ahpra with a
Freedom of Information (FOI) request dated 18 August 2025.
We are now writing to confirm the information you are seeking access to and to explain more about
our processes.
Scope of your request
From your email of 18 August 2025, we understand you are requesting information in the fol owing
terms:
For the period from 1 November 2016 to the present, I request the following information
regarding medical practitioners and the prescribing of Schedule 8 medicinal cannabis:
The total number of notifications (complaints) received.
The total number of investigations commenced.
The total number of matters that resulted in regulatory action.
A de-identified list of all regulatory actions taken, specifying for each matter:
a. The conduct (e.g., inadequate patient assessment, inappropriate prescribing).
b. The penalty or outcome (e.g., caution, conditions imposed, suspension).
The FOI Act is about requests for access to documents. While your request does not make a request
for a specific, identifiable document, we understand that you are seeking documents that contain the
requested information, if such a document exists. If we have misunderstood your request, please
contact me so that we can better understand the information that you are seeking.
Charges
In some cases, charges may apply for the search and retrieval of documents, however this is not
common.

Ahpra and the National Boards regulate these registered health professions: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practice, Chinese
medicine, chiropractic, dental, medical, medical radiation practice, midwifery, nursing, occupational therapy, optometry, osteopathy,
paramedicine, pharmacy, physiotherapy, podiatry and psychology.
Consultation with third parties
Where documents contain information about third parties, the FOI Act requires us to consult them in
certain circumstances before making a decision. Consultation may be necessary where information:
• was sent to or was received from an Australian or foreign government or agency
• concerns a person’s or an organisation's business or commercial affairs, or
• is personal information about a person (including a deceased person).
If third party consultation is required, we wil contact you.
