The purpose of this letter is to give you a decision about access to documents that you
requested under the
Freedom of Information Act 1982 (
FOI Act).
You requested access to documents relating to the
Australian Citizenship (Transitionals
and Consequentials) Act 2007.
Specifical y, you sought access to:
1. “A copy of the Act as passed with signature of the Royal Assent.”
2. “Documents submitted to the Governor-General for royal assent to the Act
(including the certificate from either the House of Representatives or the Senate,
and the certificate signed by the Attorney-General recommending assent).”
DECISION AND REASONS FOR DECISION
I, Christopher Price, Chief Operating Officer, am an officer authorised under subsection
23(1) of the FOI Act to make decisions in relation to FOI requests.
In response to
part 1 of your request, a true copy of the Governor-General’s signature
on the
Australian Citizenship (Transitionals and Consequentials) Act 2007 is attached.
In response to
part 2 of your request, copies of the Royal Assent certificates from the
First Parliamentary Counsel to the Attorney-General, the Attorney-General to the
Governor-General and from the Speaker of the House of Representatives to the
Governor-General are attached.
Material taken into account
I have taken the following material into account in making my decision:
• The FOI Act 1982 (section 12(1)(a)); and
• The guidelines issued by the Australian Information Commissioner under
section 93A of the FOI Act.
