Next-gen DTA talent bolster APS digital

More than 120 apprentices, cadets and graduates celebrated the completion of their programs
at a ceremony in Canberra yesterday.
The program participants work in a range of digital or technical roles across the Australian
Government.

These apprentices, cadets and graduates are increasing digital capability within the Australian
Public Service, completing their programs from across 19 different agencies.
The Digital Transformation Agency recently released the Digital Transformation Strategy (/our-
projects/strategies/digital-transformation-strategy), a bold seven-year vision that will see all
government services available digitally by 2025.
A skilled Australian Public Service that is ready for the digital future is vital to achieving that
vision.
In committing to making sure that government’s digital services are not only the most
advanced technologically, but truly centered around the needs of users, we are building
capability across all of government.
These programs attract, train and retain recruits to best prepare us to facilitate digital
transformation of government.
As the program participants get set to embark on their digital careers in government, it is an
ideal time to work in the digital field.
The skills the recruits have built are exactly what is to build a robust digital workforce with
advanced technological skills and modern-day problem-solving abilities, needed to fulfill our
vision to be one of the world’s leading digital governments.
Since the programs began in 2007, the DTA’s digital graduate, cadetship and apprenticeship
programs have supported the digital transformation agenda of government by building strong
digital capabilities at the entry level.
Pathways into government have been provided for more than 1,100 digital apprentices, cadets
and graduates.
In 2019, another 102 program participants will commence across 16 government agencies.
