The Digital Marketplace has passed a significant milestone with the
Australian Government awarding more than $500 million in digital services contracts.
This is an important step forward in the Australian Government’s ICT procurement
transformation efforts and the our goal of making government easier to deal with.
Significantly, over $300 million of the contracted $500 million has been awarded to small to
medium enterprises (SMEs), many of which are working with the Australian Government for the
first time.
The Digital Marketplace (https://marketplace.service.gov.au/) has awarded contracts across
1800 opportunities, making it easier for businesses of all sizes wanting to partner with
government to compete for contracts.
The DTA-managed Digital Marketplace is an online sourcing platform with a unique user-
centred approach. It has simplified contracting arrangements, making it easier for buyers and
sellers to come together and find innovative solutions to meet their sourcing requirements.
Increased engagement and regular improvements have also reduced barriers to adoption by
buyers.
Launched in 2016, the Marketplace has focused on transforming how government buys digital
services. It plays a key role in the DTA-led ICT Procurement Transformation to make
government open for business, encourage competition, drive innovation and reduce barriers in
procurement.
More than 1800 buyers from almost 290 government agencies, enterprises and universities are
now registered. The platform offers buyers a broad range of opportunities to partner with
industry.
The Digital Marketplace makes it easier for businesses, especially SMEs, to access and compete
for government contracts.
The platform hosts an equally diverse range of sellers, with more than 1430 businesses of all
sizes listed in the
seller catalogue (https://marketplace.service.gov.au/search/sellers). It
provides buyers with greater access to emerging and innovative sellers across multiple digital
service categories.
We are using ongoing research and feedback to continuously improve the service, ensuring the
platform is simple, clear and fast for both buyers and sellers alike. With growing interest from
other government jurisdictions, the Marketplace is now more diverse and open than ever.
