Stay up-to-date with the latest COVID-19 information directly from the COVIDSafe app home
screen.

Today’s COVIDSafe update introduces new features to better
inform users.
The update – released to Apple App Store and Google Play Store – provides new features that
allow users to change their registration postcode when they are travelling or moving to
another location. Users can also easily access current COVID-19 case number statistics by state
or territory, to keep up-to-date with the developments in states and territories of interest.
These improvements based on user research and feedback, mean users will be able to stay
better informed as they travel and as border restrictions ease.
COVIDSafe continues to play an important role in Australia’s effort to combat COVID-19,
alongside the practice of good hygiene, physical distancing and getting tested if you have
symptoms.
We encourage everybody to download or update to the latest version of the app and use it to
help stay up-to-date and fight the spread of COVID-19.

Update details
Ability to update registration postcode
In this version you can update the postcode you used when you registered the app.
Whether you are travelling for a period of time to another state or territory, or you are moving
for a longer term, you can change your postcode to reflect where you are. By keeping your
postcode up-to-date, relevant health officials will be better able to undertake contact tracing if
you test positive for COVID-19, or come in contact with someone who tested positive.
COVIDSafe does not track your location and this postcode update will not collect any
geolocation data.
Case number statistics by state and territory
Detailed COVID-19 case number statistics are now available for each state and territory and are
updated daily from the Department of Health, and state and territory data.
You can now see the number of new cases and active cases of COVID-19 for your state or
territory directly from the COVIDSafe home screen. This change makes it more convenient for
users to stay up-to-date with the latest information in their area. These statistics can be hidden
from the home screen at any time, should you not wish to see them.
Improvements from our engagement with the tech community
We continue to listen to and engage with the tech community through the COVIDSafe GitHub
source code repository and direct email communications.
We have addressed a Bluetooth interference issue and incorporated security enhancements
that were raised by the tech community.
This feedback continues to improve COVIDSafe’s performance and we thank the tech
community for their feedback and cooperation as always.
Source code update and next release
In line with today’s update, the source code has been released. We continue to encourage the
tech community to review and provide feedback within the source code repository
(https://covidsafe.gov.au/app-code-terms-and-conditions.html)
.

We are currently working on the next update to the COVIDSafe app and will continue to
monitor and respond to community feedback.
