Request for access to documents under the Freedom of Information Act 1982
I refer to your
Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act) request by the ACMA on 19 November
2025, in which you sought access to documents and materials relating to ACMA’s investigation into
Sportsbet’s promotion of betting odds during the 2022 Brownlow Medal Count.
Further extension of time – section 15AA of the FOI Act
I note that in your email dated 24 November 2025 you agreed to certain clarifications to your FOI
request and acknowledged an extension of time may be necessary due to the Christmas break.
As you are aware, we have been conducting third party consultations in order to give the third
parties whose business information appears in the documents that fall within the scope of your FOI
request (relevant documents) an opportunity to make submissions in relation to the application of
any exemptions. As noted in my earlier correspondence, a result of the third-party consultation the
statutory timeframe for processing your request has been extended by an additional 30 days until
19 January 2025.
As you noted in your email dated 24 November 2025, the processing of the request will stretch into
the Christmas Break period. In light of that, and in order to review any third party submissions and
finalise the processing of the request, in accordance with paragraph 15AA(a) of the FOI Act, we
are seeking your agreement, in writing, for an extension of time of until the
2 February 2026 (2
weeks after 19 January 2026), to complete the FOI request.
We would appreciate your response to this request by
22 December 2025. .
