Dear Mr Paul
FOI REQUEST – REFERENCE NUMBER 2017-014
I refer to your request for access to documents under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (the FOI
Act) in your email of 12 May 2017. Specifically, you have sought access to the following:
“Documents, e.g. external work request or invoices, pertaining to the total cost to produce
‘Searching for Trough Man’, which went to air on the RN Earshot program at 11am on 9 May
2017.”
I am authorised by the Managing Director under section 23 of the FOI Act to make decisions in
respect of requests made under that Act.
Locating and identifying documents
I have taken reasonable steps to identify and locate all relevant documents. The search for these
documents involved contacting the appropriate Executive Producer within RN, who in turn consulted
with relevant managers and staff within RN.
I requested that searches be conducted of all hard and soft copy records for documents which fall
within the scope of your request. As a result of those searches, the following three documents were
identified as being within the scope of your request:
No. Document
Date
Pages
1
Contract
19 December 2016 2
2
Invoice
20 December 2016 1
3

In my view, the documents contain information about persons and/or businesses who might
reasonably wish to make a contention that the documents are conditionally exempt under s47F and/or
s47G of the FOI Act, and that access to the documents would, on balance, be contrary to the public

interest for the purposes of s11A(5). In those circumstances, I am required to give those persons and
businesses a reasonable opportunity to make submissions in support of such a contention, and to
have regard to any submissions that are made.
In accordance with s15(6) of the FOI Act, the period of time to notify you of a decision in this matter is
extended by a further period of 30 days to enable that consultation to occur. This means that, subject
to any suspension of the processing period or further extension of the time for deciding this
application, the ABC is required to make a determination in relation to this application by 13 July 2017.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you wish to discuss this matter further.
Yours sincerely
Judith Maude
