Dear Mr Tweedale
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST
I refer to your email of today, which contained a request, pursuant to the
Freedom of
Information Act 1982 (Cth), for access to:
(1). Any documents detailing the software programming languages used by particular
projects or initiatives of CSIRO.
(2). Any documents listing or mentioning software programs or libraries developed by
or in conjunction with CSIRO, the source code of which has been made publicly
available (whether or not the code was released under a recognised Free Software or
Open Source license).
I recognise that it may be necessary to redact or omit documents in relation to projects
that have not been publicly announced. This is acceptable, but in the event that this
occurs, I further request:
(3). Any documents detailing the number of projects (and if possible the languages they
are using) removed from the scope of part (1) of this request due to the project not
having been publicly announced, including documents produced during the execution
of this request.
I recognise that it may be necessary to redact or omit documents in relation to publicly
announced projects of a highly sensitive nature. This is acceptable, but in the event
that this occurs, I further request:
(4). Any documents listing the names of the projects removed from the scope of part
(1) of this request due to the project being of a highly sensitive nature, including
documents produced during the execution of this request.
Acknowledgement
CSIRO received your request on 12 July 2017 and the 30 day statutory period for processing
your request commences from the day after that date. You should therefore expect a
decision from CSIRO by
11 August 2017. The period of 30 days may be extended if we need
to consult third parties pursuant to sections 27 and 27A of the FOI Act, in relation to their
personal information and/or their business affairs contained in the documents you are
seeking. CSIRO will advise you if this happens.
Under the FOI Act charges may be imposed for processing your request pursuant to section
29. These charges are calculated by reference to the time spent in searching and retrieving
relevant documents, decision making time, photocopying, postage etc. In the event CSIRO
decides that you are liable to pay a charge in respect of processing your request, you wil be
notified of the preliminary assessment of the charges and you will have the opportunity to
contend that the charge should not be imposed, or should be reduced.
Please note that information released under the FOI Act may later be published online on
CSIRO’s disclosure log, subject to certain exceptions. For example, personal information will
not be published where this would be unreasonable.
CSIRO wil contact you using the email address you provided. Please advise if you would
prefer us to use an alternative means of contact.
Yours sincerely,
Karen Robinson
FOI Administrative Officer
