Extension of time under s 15AB 
Dear Ms Pane 
On 30 August 2018, the Department of Veterans' Affairs (the Department) applied for further 
time to make a decision on your FOI request of 16 July 2018. 
This application was on the basis that the processing period is insufficient to deal adequately 
with your request, because it is complex and voluminous.  
Consultation 
On 31 August 2018, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner wrote to you to 
seek your views on the Department’s request. You responded to our inquiries and provided a 
number of comments that I have taken into consideration. 
Decision 
I have decided to grant the Department an extension of time to process your request to 
1 October 2018. This decision has been made under s 15AB(2) of the Freedom of Information 
Act 1982 (Cth). 
By granting further time it is anticipated that the Department will provide a well-reasoned 
and better managed decision.
