Dear Petrol Head, 
 
Purpose 
 
The purpose of this letter is to notify Australia Post's decision in response to your request for access to 
information/documents under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 ("FOI Act").   Your request was received on 26 
February 2020 in which you sought access to the following documents: 
 
Actual purchase price of the 3 Wheel Electric Delivery Vehicle and total amount purchased by Australia Post, Australia 
wide. 
 
Enquiries with relevant areas of Australia Post have confirmed that Australia Post’s three wheeled electric vehicles 
are used to deliver letters and parcels. 
 
Decision 
 
Your request is denied pursuant to section 7 of the FOI Act (read in conjunction with referencing Part II of Schedule 2). 
 
Reason for Decision 
 
Section 7 Part II of Schedule 2 
 
Australia Post’s Parcel Delivery business is an activity carried on by Australia Post on a commercial basis. 
 
Section 7 exempts Australia Post from the operation of the FOI Act in relation to documents in respect of its 
commercial activities. 
 
According to section 7(3) the term “commercial activities” in Part II of Section 2 means: 
 
a.  Activities carried on by an agency on a commercial basis in competition with persons other than 
governments or authorities of governments; or 
b.  Activities carried on by an agency that may reasonably be expected in the foreseeable future to be carried 
on by the agency on a commercial basis in competition with persons other than governments or authorities 
of governments. 
 
Any documents matching the description of your request are exempt from the operation of the FOI Act.
