Melville South Project 
Update Newsletter – April 2016 
 
The City of Melvil e and Western Power are pleased to provide this update on the progress of 
the  Melvil e  South  Project.    These  updates  are  provided  to  all  property  owners  and

The civil contractors, Diamond Communications, are now installing underground cabling in 
the  streets  in  Cell  3  of  the  project.    They  are  continuing  to  install  the  transformers  and 
switchgear  units,  and  street  lights  where  they  are  not  too  close  to  the  existing  overhead 
wires. 
 
The  electrical  contractors,  Westralian  Utility  Services,  have  now  completed  all  house

service installations (the cable from the green dome at the front of the property to the meter 
box) in the project. 
 
The properties in Cell 1 were changed over to the new underground system in January and 
February 2016 and changeovers wil  continue in the rest of the project as the new circuits are 
Melville 
completed.  The project is expected to be fully completed in January 2017.

Reinstatements and Repairs 
The  project’s  contractors,  Diamond  Communications  &  Westralian  Utility  Services,  are 
responsible  for  all  re-instatement  of  their  work  areas  as  closely  as  possible  to  original

condition.  To assist this, all work areas were photographed before work commenced. 
 
The underground power work is presently being conducted in the verges in Cell 3 (see map 
below) but please be aware that ATCO Gas has worked in many streets in the project area in 
the last 9 months, and NBN is also working in the area.  Please ensure that you are certain 
of which work has caused the damage when you call about repairs or reinstatements.  For 
Release  
example, if your house is in Cell 5 and there is damage out on your verge, it won’t be our 
work that caused it as we are only up to Cell 3 in our verge works.

AS  DAMAGE  THAT  MAY  BE  CAUSED  IS  NOT  ALWAYS  EVIDENT,  IT  IS  IMPORTANT 
THAT  YOU  INSPECT  THE  WORK  AREAS  BOTH  OUTSIDE  AND  WITHIN  THE 
PROPERTY,  PARTICULARLY  RETICULATION  SYSTEMS,  AND  ADVISE  DIAMOND 
COMMUNICATIONS OR WESTRALIAN UTILITY SERVICES OF ANYTHING REQUIRING 
THEIR ATTENTION. 
 
Property Owners/Occupiers are welcome to carry out minor repairs or re-instatement if they 
wish, provided no reimbursement is sought.
