NAB recently identified that you are owed a payment for shift work and/or for working on a public
holiday. We detected this payment as a result of undertaking a reconciliation required under the
safety-net facilitation clause in the NAB Enterprise Agreement 2016.

An amount of $498.31 will be paid in your normal pay on 8 January 2020. This payment is subject to
tax and we will also make the corresponding superannuation contribution.

NAB recently identified some employees who had been paid for shift-work and/or work on a public
holiday were entitled to a payment in accordance with the safety-net facilitation clause under the
current Enterprise Agreement (EA).
The safety-net facilitation clause ensures Group 1 employees who perform shift-work and/or work
on a public holiday are better off under the EA compared with the Banking Finance and Insurance
Award 2010 (Award).
What is the Appendix D safety-net facilitation clause? The safety-net facilitation clause provides that NAB will conduct a comparison of the pay a Group 1
employee received under the EA and the pay that would be received under the Award on a quarterly

basis. Where there is any difference in a Group 1 employee’s pay which would otherwise be payable
under the Award, NAB will reconcile that and pay the difference.
When will the payment be made?

The payment (less applicable tax) will be processed in the 8 January 2020 payroll cycle.
How do I know if it applies to me?
Impacted current employees will be contacted directly shortly, followed by former employees.

As part of reviewing the requirements of the EA, NAB found it was behind in the reconciliation
required for Group 1 employees who perform shift-work and work on public holidays.
Our processes let us down and we sincerely apologise. NAB has taken steps to ensure it will
complete the reconciliation in a more timely and accurate manner going forward.

How many people are impacted? The shift-work and public holiday reconciliation combined impacts around 838 current employees.
Former employees are also impacted and we will be contacting them shortly.
How much is the total adjustment? Around $800,000 will be paid to current employees with respect to the shift-work and public holiday
reconciliation.
We are also paying each impacted person a one-off amount equal to 5.25% p.a. based on the gross
amount of the payment for the inconvenience caused.
Does this mean the EA rates need an uplift to be above Award? The total employment cost (or group floors) will be considered in the current enterprise bargaining
round to assess the minimum payable under the EA and the Award for Group 1 employees. The
reconciliation is conducted on a quarterly basis and in some cases, an employee will receive a
payment for one quarter, but receive much more than the Award entitlements in another quarter,

How does NAB know it has not been underpaying its employees?
NAB is committed to paying our people correctly. All employees are covered by the terms of an
Enterprise Agreement and we take our obligations seriously. In addition, a review of our internal pay
