Request for Updating Waste Inventories
Thank you for your letter of 18 December 2017 requesting that CSIRO ensures that its radionuclide
inventories accurately record its radioactive waste holdings, includ
UNDER ing legacy material.
CSIRO has made good progress on updating its inventories throughout 2017 and will continue these efforts
in 2018. For the majority of its licences, CSIRO expects to complete this work in time to meet the
requirements of your planned verification activities in 12 to 18 months’ time.

As you are aware, CSIRO’s large holding of legacy waste held at the Woomera Protected Area presents
particular challenges in terms of developing an accurate inventory. CSIRO is committed to working with
ARPANSA and others on this issue and I look forward to discussing our current approach at the CSI
FEBRUARY RO-
ARPANSA Leadership Forum (CALF) meeting currently being planned for early 2018.
