DEFENCE FOI 154/21/22 STATEMENT OF REASONS UNDER THE FREEDOM OF
INFORMATION ACT 1. I refer to the application by Right to Know under the
Freedom of Information Act 1982
(FOI Act) for access to:
“…the following electronically stored information:
1) The total number of Navy Officers that currently hold any of the following
positions:
a. Major Fleet Unit Commanding Officer
b .Major Fleet Unit Executive Officer
c. Minor War Vessel Commanding Officer
d. Minor War Vessel Executive Officer
e. Major Fleet Unit Principal Warfare Officer
2) The total number of Navy Officers from Paragraph 1 that have also self-identified
via PMKeyS Self-Service in the “Workplace Equity and Diversity: Ethnic
Background” Section as any one of the following:
a. North East Asian
b. South East Asian
c. Southern and Central Asian
d. Sub-Saharan African
e. Nth African & Middle Eastern
f. Peoples of the Americas
I am not requesting any identifiable information (names, PMKeyS numbers, rank,
seniority, addresses, contact information, etc) about any of the Officers that hold any
positions in Paragraph 1.

2. I am the authorised officer pursuant to section 23 of the FOI Act to make a decision on
this FOI request.
Documents identified
3. One document was generated under section 17 of the FOI Act matching the description
of this request. In accordance with section 17 of the FOI Act:
a. a written document was produced containing the information by using a
‘computer or other equipment that is ordinarily available to the agency for
retrieving or collating stored information’ (section 17(1)(c)(i)); and
b. producing the written document did not ‘substantially and unreasonably divert
the resources of the agency from its other operations’ (section 17(2)).
