Freedom of Information Request The purpose of this letter is to formally acknowledge receipt of your request under the
Freedom of
Information Act 1982 (Cth) (FOI Act) that the eSafety Commissioner (eSafety) received on 31 January
2022.
Scope of your request
I understand your request is for:
All policy documents, guidelines and procedures that purport to apply to the eSafety
Commissioner, employees of her office, or contractors of her office, relating to:
• communication and media announcements
• official use of social media by the Commissioner, her office, or media/comms staff
• process for release of public documents and engaging in public consultation.
This should include both documents formulated within the eSafety Office, and documents created
by other government agencies which the eSafety Office applied, circulated to staff, or considered
itself bound by.
covering the period:
• 1 September 2021 to 31 January 2022.
I understand your request relating to eSafety communications and social media documents, guidelines
and procedures will include documents drafted by eSafety and documents eSafety received from other
government agencies for the purposes identified in the request.
I confirm your request will be handled in line with the timeframes and requirements under the FOI Act.

I also understand your request does not refer to publicly available information, policies, or news
articles. We also note that generally policies that apply to the Australian Public Service are available
on the Australian Public Service Commission website. In particular we draw your attention to the

and Agencies
eSafety will assume that you do not require the details of public servants, which we will therefore
redact on relevance grounds pursuant to section 22 of the FOI Act.
Please let us know if any of the scope as outlined above is not correct. eSafety will begin processing
your request pursuant to this understanding.
Charges The processing charges which eSafety is entitled to charge are prescribed in the
Freedom of
Information (Charges) Regulations 2019. These charges include:
•
searching and retrieving ($15 per hour)
•
making a decision on access ($20 per hour after the first five hours, which are for free)
•
photocopying a written document (10 cents per page)
•
making a copy of a written document other than a photocopy ($4.40 per page)
•
postage or delivery (an amount not exceeding cost of postage or delivery)
•
transcribing ($4.40 per page)
•
supervising, if the applicant wishes to inspect ($6.25 per half an hour, or part thereof).
eSafety will, in accordance with section 29 of the FOI Act, advise you if you are liable to pay any
charge and provide a preliminary assessment of those charges.
Timeframe for processing eSafety received your request on 31 January 2022 and the 30-day statutory period for processing your
request commenced from the day after that date. The 30-day statutory period for processing your
request concludes on 2 March 2022.
However, the FOI Act provides for an extension of time in certain circumstances. Relevantly, the time
period can be extended by 30 days if third party consultation is required. I will inform you if the time
period needs to be extended pursuant to the FOI Act.
