I refer to your email dated 2 February 2022.
The original scope for FOI request LEX 46947 sought, amongst other things, the ‘…full time
equivalent ongoing number of
lawyers employed by the Department for each financial year’.
Your question below asks: ‘…Can you advise how the '24.85 full time equivalent ongoing APS
staff' (and the related '$4.65 million on direct and indirect legal services' figure) quoted on p.97
of the 2020-21 Veterans' Affairs Annual Report was sourced from (as cited, along with the 2019-
2020 Annual Report reporting, in the FOI made)?’.
The department’s annual report refers to full time equivalent staff, not all of which may be
lawyers. For example, this figure may include administrative staff and staff performing paralegal
functions.

The decision says that Veterans' Affairs is unable to determine the number of FTE APS
lawyers employed by Veterans' Affairs. Can you advise how the '24.85 full time equivalent
