Dear JJM
Freedom of Information (FOI) request – Access Decision
On 22 August 2022, the Department of Home Affairs (the Department) received a request for
access to documents under the
Freedom of Information Act 1982 (the FOI Act).
The purpose of this letter is to provide you with a decision on your request for access under the
FOI Act.
1
Scope of request
You have requested access to the following documents:
1. How many decisions did the Hon Karen Andrews MP personally make under the
following sections of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth): 501J, 501, 500A, 501, 501B,
501BA, 501C, 501A, 501CA, 501D? To clarify, what is sought is the aggregate
number of decisions, not the number of decisions under each of those sections.
2. How many decisions were favourable to the non-citizens the subject of such
decisions, out of the decisions referred to in question 1 above? Please treat
a favourable decision as a decision to not cancel a visa, not refuse to grant a visa or
to revoke the cancellation of a visa. Please treat a decision to set aside a decision of
the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT): and refuse to grant a visa as a decision
to refuse to grant a visa; and cancel a visa as a decision to cancel a visa.
2
Authority to make decision
I am an officer authorised under section 23 of the FOI Act to make decisions in respect of
requests to access documents or to amend or annotate records.
