In the Hawkesbury Gazette on 22 August 2017 it reported in part, “Among former serving
members and their families, Veterans’ Affairs claims data shows 986 hospitalisations for
intentional self-harm from 2000 to 2016 involving 789 people.”
I require information for 2021 and 2022 for:

and

Please note:
Data is filtered based on at least one International Classification of Diseases (ICD) diagnosis code listed for
the hospital admission in the range X60 to X84. X60 to X84 are ICD cause codes for intentional self-harm,
noting the ICD codes do not include a distinction between ‘Intentional self-harm with suicidal intent’ or
‘Intentional self-harm without suicidal intent’.
The data includes hospital admissions where treatment of a diagnosis caused by intentional self-harm was
recorded, noting this may not be the primary reason for hospital admission.
Data is provided for all age groups for DVA clients with eligibility at the time of admission (Veteran Gold
Card or Veteran White Card accepted condition), where DVA entitlement was used to fund the hospital
admission.
Data for 2021 has been updated to include the latest data for private and public hospital admissions.
Data is based on hospital services accepted for DVA funding at time of data retrieval.
