Kardinya South Underground Power Project

I am pleased to advise that in January 2017, the State Government announced that the Kardinya South 
Project would be included in Round 6 of the State Underground Power Program.  The Project is now 
being designed for construction by Western Power, and the City wil  be advised in due course when the

project is planned to commence and we wil  further advise you. 
Round 6 of the Program was developed in 2016 with the State Government Department of Finance’s 
Public Utilities Office inviting local authorities to submit proposals to be considered for inclusion in the 
State  Underground  Power  Program.    The  City  prepared  thirteen  submissions  to  be  considered.  
Subsequently the State Government selected some 27 proposals throughout the metro area to go out to 
survey to measure the level of support amongst property owners.  Fol owing receipt and analysis of the 
surveys it was determined that Kardinya South would be included in the Program.  The results of the

survey indicated that 59.5% of respondents to the survey in Kardinya South are in favour of the proposal 
and prepared to contribute financially. 
The  approximate  charge  to  property  owners  is  estimated  to  be  $4,450.    The  charge  that  is  levied  is 
comprised  of  two  components  with  the  first  being  the  contribution  to  works  external  to  the  property 
known as the network charge.  This includes all the w
Melville ork to place the electricity network underground 
including cabling, the purchase and placement of new transformers, removal of the existing overhead 
of 
system and installation of the new street lighting system, whilst the second charge is for works internal to 
the property being the underground connection to the network from the individual property boundaries to 
the  meter  box.    Those  properties  that  already  have  the  underground  internal  connection  wil   not  be 
charged the internal connection

The City acknowledges that there is a small pocket of properties in the south west corner of the project 
area that have underground power as a result of the sub-division development.  The City is waiting on 
further technical information from Western Power to determine how these properties wil  be treated.
