189/190 Visa inequality in point calculation

Gopinath Ananthan made this Freedom of Information request to Department of Home Affairs

The request was refused by Department of Home Affairs.

From: Gopinath Ananthan

Delivered

Dear Department of Home Affairs,

I would like highlight the inequality in the system while calculating skilled points for 189/190.

In November 2017 - I had 4 Years 9 months of relevant overseas experience and close to 5 months of onshore experience. Which gave me only 5 experience points for 189/190 Visa.

At the same point in time, people with same total experience and complete experience(4.9 Years + 4 months is > 5 Years) from overseas got 10 experience points which gave them an advantage and helped to receive 189/190 invitation.

I have got that 5 experience points once I completed 1 Year in Australia(July 2018) which made huge difference and still I am waiting for the invitation.

Please let know why the system is not designed to award points more efficiently and how I can report this issue?

Yours faithfully,

Gopinath
