Dear Mr Smith

I refer to your request for access to documents relating to APSC Social Media- where is the line?

As your request covers documents which potentially contain personal information, the APSC is consulting the relevant individuals under section 27A of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act) before making a decision on the release of those documents. For this reason the period for processing your request has been extended by 30 days in order to allow our agency time to consult with the relevant individuals (section 15(6) of the FOI Act).

The consultation mechanism under section 27A applies when we believe the individuals may wish to contend that the requested documents are exempt for reasons of personal privacy. We will take into account any comments we receive from the individuals but the final decision about whether to grant you access to the documents you requested rests with the FOI decision-maker.

Regards

Suggestion to the applicant: I suggest (if my assumption is correct) that you immediately write to the agency to say that you do not want the name of any person who made a submission to the agency. This might reduce very much the amount of consultation that is necessary and so it would also reduce any charges that the agency might want to make.

Dear FOI Officer,

I refer to your correspondence dated 23 March 2017 in which you have extended the processing time of my request by 30 days.

I am happy to exclude the names, email addresses, phone numbers, and job titles of all individuals from the scope of this request.

In addition, any information which might reasonably identify a particular individual can also be excluded. For example, if an employee were to write 'I am the Director of Team A in Newcastle'.

I trust this will assist you in processing this request and hope you can provide a timely response.
Yours sincerely,

James Smith
