Dear Waverley Council,

Could you please advise:
1) How many citizenship ceremonies are planned for 2023 and approximately how many people participate in each ceremony.

2) The number of people waiting to be allocated to an Australian citizenship ceremony (who have been approved) in Waverley Council NSW.

Yours faithfully,
Paloma

Dear Paloma,

Regarding your enquiry below, the Acting Executive Manager, Arts, Culture
and Events, has provided the following response:

1. How many citizenship ceremonies are planned for 2023 and approximately
how many people participate in each ceremony?

o We have 14 ceremonies planned for 2023, three ceremonies will be
hosted on Australia Day, each of those ceremonies will be for 113
conferees. Due to venue capacity, emergency and fire regulations,
conferees have been invited to bring one guest each.
o The following 11 ceremonies will be hosted on a monthly basis.
o 25 February we will host two ceremonies for 80 conferees. Conferees
will not be limited to one guest, but capacity limitations will be in
place as the venue seats 190.
o The remaining 9 ceremonies do not have finalised dates yet, but they
will start to fall into place in the coming weeks.
o At this stage other than the first two ceremonies we do not know how
many people will participate.
o The number of conferees is dependent upon how many people living in
Waverley apply for and receive approval from Department of Immigration
to become citizens.

2. The number of people waiting to be allocated to an Australian
citizenship ceremony (who have been approved) in Waverley Council NSW.

o At this stage 161 conferees are waiting to be allocated to an
Australian citizenship ceremony, but the number changes daily and we
do not have access to that information in real time because it is
managed by the Department of Immigration.
o Most of those 161 conferees will likely be accommodated in the 25
February ceremonies.
