Nigel Gladstone

Dear Local Council,

Can you please provide me with the number of food safety inspections carried out in your area annually, for the last three years?

How many warning were issued each year and how many fines each year?

What percentage of all food outlets did the council inspect each year?

Have any outlets been shut down for non-compliance and if so what for and how many?

What were the worst offences/biggest fines for each year?

Yours faithfully,

Nigel Gladstone

Dear Mr Gladstone

I refer to your email dated 28 October 2016 requesting information
relating to Council’s food safety inspections.  I have been requested to
provide you with the following information, which has been provided to me
by Council’s Environment & Health Officers.

Number of food safety inspections carried out in your area annually, for
the last three years

·         2013/2014 - 128 Inspections

·         2014/2015 - 125 Inspections

·         2015/2016 - 137 Inspections

Number of warnings and fines issued each year

·         2013/2014 - 43 Warnings; 9 Penalty Notices

·         2014/2015 - 48 Warnings; 6 Penalty Notices

·         2015/2016 - 59 Warnings; 20 Penalty Notices

Percentage of all food outlets Council inspected each year

·         100% for all three financial years

Outlets that have been shut down for non-compliance

·         Nil

Worst offences/biggest fines for each year

·         For the past 3 years, the offence has always been failure to
comply with the Food Standards Code (individual or corporation) under the
Food Act 2003. The "worst" breaches of the Food Standards Code relate to
temperature abuse, with the biggest Penalty Notice being $880 on a
corporation.

I trust this information satisfies your enquiry.

Dear Gayle Carey,

Thanks very much for this information. Can I ask for one more piece, please? After I started this project I found out there is also a Formal Improvement notice that can be issued and I have the number of these for the other councils so I was hoping you may be able to tell me how many of these were issues in each year too?

Yours sincerely,

Nigel Gladstone
