Dear Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity,

On the 28th of May, 2015, police officers from Green Valley Police Station arrested Sydney man Omar El Baba after assaulting him outside his home. After taking him to the station, police released El Baba to Liverpool Hospital for treatment for what they stated were "minor injuries", with no charges. However, after spending the night in the Emergency unit, El Baba and his lawyer (Zemarai Khatiz) filed a complaint against the Green Valley Officers stating that his injuries were far more extensive than in the police fact sheet, additional to him being wrongly assaulted on innocent grounds. Mr Khatiz stated police only charged El Baba after the law firm sent a letter of complaint to Green Valley Police Station.

As a student journalist at Macleay College, and under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act), I request to see any documentation including the medical report/fact sheet/CCTV or footage from the Green Valley Police officers on the night of 28th May 2015 regarding the incident with Omar El Baba.
Additionally, I request to see paperwork/documents containing either El Baba or his lawyers account of the events that night, including the medical report from Liverpool Hospital.

Yours faithfully,

Fern McNulty
