Isolation of SARS-Cov-2

Liam Power made this Freedom of Information request to Department of Health

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Department of Health should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Department of Health,

Under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 I am requesting for you to please provide me with the documents held within the Department of Health that show the evidence of the isolation of the SARS-Cov-2 virus. To eliminate the possibility of contamination, I ask that these documents show the virus has been isolated from only the sample of a symptomatic patient of COVID 19, where it was not first combined with any other source of genetic material (not limited to but by way of example; monkey kidney cells/vero cells or liver cancer cells.)

Please note that I am using "isolation" in the every-day sense of the word: the
act of separating a thing(s) from everything else. I am not requesting records
where "isolation of SARS-COV-2" refers *instead* to:

• the culturing of something, or
• the performance of an amplification test (i.e. a PCR test), or • the sequencing
of something.

As this information is of extreme public interest at this time, I request any fee for finding this information to be waived. Thank you for your time.

Yours faithfully,

Liam P

To ensure the department can process your request in accordance with the requirements of the FOI Act, including locating and providing access to all relevant documents, the department would be grateful if you would agree to an extension of 30 calendar days for processing your request. If you agree, the department will endeavour to provide a decision to you by 17 October 2021.

Please contact the department by 23 August 2021 with your decision to the 30 day extension of processing time.
