Freedom of Information, Australian National University

Good morning Adam,

We refer to your request for access to documents relating to the Renew ANU Program Board meeting minutes under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (the Act) received by the University on 30 August 2025.

Update on your request

• The information has been collected and processed into a suitable format for review (79 pages of material).
• The documents gathered have undergone an initial review by the relevant subject matter expert(s).
• The documents are now undergoing a final, thorough review before a decision is finalised and signed out.

Do you agree to an extension?

Due to the thorough, final review of the 79 pages of material, we are concerned that we will be unable to provide you with a response by the current decision communication date of Monday 3 November 2025.

Delays are being experienced due to the absences of key FOI staff causing delays in the processing of FOI requests, as well as the FOI team dealing with a number of complex FOI requests with minimal staff.

Accordingly, the University is seeking an extension of time of 30 days in accordance with section 15AA of the FOI Act.

If you agree to the extension, the University would be required to provide you with a decision notice as soon as possible but no later than COB Monday 1 December 2025. Given that your request is in the final stages, we anticipate being able to provide you with a decision sooner than that proposed extension date.

Please be assured that your request is receiving daily attention, and we are working to get a response to your request across the line as quickly as possible.

Your earliest response would be appreciated as we are required to notify the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) of any extension agreed.

Yours sincerely,

FOI Team

Dear Australian National University,

I am writing to request an internal review of Australian National University's handling of my FOI request 'Renew ANU Program Board Minutes'.

I believe that the decision may not have appropriately applied the exemptions under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Cth), particularly with respect to the provisions concerning operational matters. Specifically, I have concerns regarding the application of exemptions on page 50 of the documents and the balancing of public interest considerations as outlined in the Act.

I respectfully request that the decision be reviewed in light of the requirements of the FOI Act, to ensure that any exemptions are correctly applied in accordance with the legislation, including a full and proper consideration of operational impacts and public interest factors.

Yours faithfully,

Adam H
