A History of Radar, published report by Marjorie Barnard commissioned by CSIR 1946
Dear Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation,
Following my initial FOI request, I sent a request to CSIRO inquiries for permission to publish this report and the enquiry reference number they gave is CAS-108639-Q6D717. In their reply, they send me a form to request permission to publish.
I responded to CSIRO Inquiries on 16 July that I was asking the CSIRO for permission to publish an unpublished report, not for permission to publish an existing report. I have not heard back.
An additional FOI Request: FOI responded to my previous request with news that 'One Secret Weapon: A History of Radar' was transferred from the Academy of Sciences in Canberra on 11 May 1993 to National Archives where it was sent and now has this NAA entry:
C830, D6, Citation: NAA C830, D6.
Item ID: 973884, Location Sydney.
Status : Not yet examined.
I sent a request to NAA for permission to see and publish Barnard's report and was told it would take until this November for this report to be examined.
A second copy of the 'One Secret Weapon' report is listed in the Radio Astronomy Observatory's Papers of W Miller Goss - 'Joesph Pawsey series. Entry: ESM 12.2 Marjorie Barnard - Copy of 'One Single Weapon': CSIRO's requested by never published history of radar, related materials'.
My request is for you to tell me the correct procedure to follow so that this important document can be published and made available. It is a matter of historical national importance. If it would help, I can send a draft of an article I am writing which gives details of the content of this report.
Yours sincerely,
Diana Wyndham
OFFICIAL
Dear Diana,
The FOI team deals with requests for documents in the possession of CSIRO made under the FOI Act. We are unable to assist with other procedures or processes (including advising on processes for getting documents published).
If you wish to make a new FOI request, your request must be made under the FOI Act, state the document(s) you are seeking and provide enough detail for CSIRO to identify the documents, and provide an address or email address for CSIRO to send you the documents.
Hope this assists.
Kind regards
CSIRO’s FOI Team

Dear FOI,
Thank you for your efforts on my behalf, although I found them disappointing.
