ActewAGL progress on electricity supply capacity

We're waiting for TB to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear ACTEWAGL,

RE: FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST – ActewAGL progress

I write to request under the Freedom of Information Act 2016 to request the following updates from the ACT Network Infrastructure Assessment report from 8 October 2020:

1. The electrical distribution network consists of 2,574km of overhead lines – all of which have approximately two and a half years (or 5%) of expected service life remaining.
a. Can you please detail plans to replace all 2,574km of overhead lines by 2024.
b. Can you please detail the budgeted cost of replacing all 2,574km of overhead lines.

2. With the proposed phase-out of natural gas, the report indicates the electricity network does not have the capacity to deliver the, at minimum, 40-60% increase in demand needed to substitute natural gas with electricity, and suggests a substantial investment is required to increase supply capacity.
a. Can you please detail the costings of the substantial investment required to increase supply capacity in order to substitute renewable electricity for natural gas.
b. Can you please detail the costings of the investment, both at the household level and in government subsidies, required to transition homes with gas appliances over to fully electric appliances.

3. In the report, it is stated: “Evoenergy’s current plans do not provide for this scale of increase” relating to the 40-60% increase in demand expected with the phase-out of natural gas.
a. Can you please detail whether there is a plan for the scale of this increase as of March 13, 2023?
b. If yes, can you please detail the specifics of said plan to increase supply capacity.

Kind regards,

TB
